Fun in the sun

Ryder and I went to our neighborhood pool one morning this week, only to find that the baby pool was closed because the chlorine levels were a little out of whack. Well, the water in the main pool was freezing due to some rain we had the day before, and Ryder decided he'd rather wander around outside the pool, forcing me to chase after him. I stuck it out for an hour to make it worth the effort and energy it had taken to pack our swim bag and get to the pool, and then we headed home. I feared that this could be a really long summer if he has no interest in splashing around in the pool a few times a week.
Today we went over to Mike and Jen's house for some pool time and a cookout, and Ryder was like a little fish--he loved the water! The water temperature was perfect, and it definitely helped that he had Kendall to watch and play with.

Welcome, summer!

Whew! School is officially out for the summer, so I'll (hopefully) have some time to sit down and catch my breath. Over the last week, Ryder has put himself on a new nap schedule: one 2 1/2 or 3-hour nap each day. He's always been a bit unpredictable with his naps, sleeping an hour here or an hour there--never long enough for me to start and finish something before he's ready to wake up again. So my fingers are crossed that he sticks with this new routine, at least for the summer. I've only been home alone with him for two days, and I've already read two books! :)

We think Ryder is also starting to show interest in the whole potty-training process. He touches his diaper and says "wet, wet" or "tee (pee?), wet". Sure enough, when we go in and change him, he's definitely wet! I know boys tend to be a little slower with the whole potty-training thing than girls, so I didn't think he'd be anywhere near this stage yet. I guess it's time to pick out a little potty seat for Ryder and an instruction manual for Andrew and me! It would definitely be nice to have Ryder on his way out of diapers when the new baby arrives.

Pregnancy update:
I had a doctor's appointment today, so here are the stats:
16weeks, 4 days
Weight gain: zip, zero, zilch
Baby's heart rate: 150's
Next appt.--> August 1st (Will it be a boy or girl???)

Summerfest

This afternoon we met Mike and Jen at one of our local parks for Summerfest, which is like a mini-fair sponsored by several groups/organizations in our county. There was food, live music, and Ryder's favorite--a petting zoo!

"Hey, little goat. What'cha doing?"

"Do you like my shoe?"

(Ryder was going "moooooo", even though I tried to explain that only cows do that).

"Daddy, can we take this one home? He's just my size!"

Jen was able to get the pigs to get up to say "hi".

the hugest rabbits I've ever seen!

When Ryder spotted the cars, we were over at the petting zoo. He took off running, saying, "Go, cars, go!"

Maybe we should get one of these for our yard. :) It did nothing but eat grass the whole time.

"Are you thirsty? You can have some of my water."
