Coloring like crazy!

Both kiddos have developed a newfound interest in coloring lately. They will happily sit at the table together: Harper adding color to nearly every page in her book, and Ryder meticulously working on one picture from start to finish. I'm amazed at how well he colors within the lines now, and he's so proud of himself! I've bought a few new coloring books and refreshed our crayon and colored pencil supply to encourage my little artists. I've always thought coloring is relaxing, so I like to sit and color with them when I can. The picture of Bert and Ernie that I colored this evening even impressed Ryder. Ha!

I couldn't resist taking a picture of one of Ryder's first school "assignments" this year. He had to draw a picture of our family and then tell a little bit about us so the teacher could write it down. So sweet!
(Andrew and I were wondering about the colorful dress-like outfit he's wearing in the picture while the rest of us are stick figures. My mom suggested it's probably tie-dye! Ryder knows his daddy so well!)

Boys and their Toys

Do you think this boy has enough Legos??

Since Ryder is quite the little builder, Pops and Andrew decided to take him on a "boys only" trip to a Lego Brick Convention that was held in Tampa last weekend. Ryder was tired after a busy week at school, so they ended up not staying too long. Pops and Andrew managed to take some pictures before heading to lunch and Toys 'R Us where Ryder got to pick out a new set--definitely his favorite part!

Back to School!

I have to admit, I was ready for school to start this year. Since I no longer have the responsibility of setting up my own classroom, this time of year doesn't overwhelm me like it did before. I am grateful that I was able to spend so much time with Ryder and Harper; we fit in lots of small outings and plenty of family time over the past few months. After so much togetherness, though, we are all ready to be back into our normal routine! :)
I took the kids to "Meet the Teacher" the Friday before school started. Since we already know the teachers and the building, this was just an excuse for us to get out of the house and reunite with friends they hadn't seen all summer. We spent most of the time in Ryder's classroom because he is in the "big kid class" this year, and there were lots of things to do and see. Their favorite spot is the reading nook: a real bathtub filled with pillows and soft blankets!
"Rub-a-dub-dub, read a book in the tub"

It was a wonderful first week of school, and the kids are adjusting to waking up early again. In fact, they are adjusting a little too well--they were awake by 6 and 6:30am this weekend too. Ugh. I love the fact that they look forward to going to school each day. Ryder keeps saying, "My school is so fun!" I know this probably won't always be the case, so I'm enjoying it while it lasts.
