While I was getting her dressed for school this past Monday morning, she flat out refused to wear a diaper or pull-up. She wanted her big girl underwear. Here's how the conversation played out:
H: No diaper, Mommy. I want to wear undies.
M: You want to wear undies to school?
H: Yes.
M: Are you sure? That means you have to tell your teachers when you need to go potty. You can't go in your pants.
H: Ok.
M: Are you really sure?? I'm scared that you'll be so busy you will forget to tell someone.
H: You scared, Mommy? It's ok. You need a huggie?
Ha! Leave it to Harper to try to comfort me because I was the one who was anxious about the whole situation. And I did tell her several more times that I was scared so that she would give me lots of "huggies" that morning. :) She wore her big girl underwear all week to school and only had one little accident! Unfortunately for her teachers it was a poo-poo one; she's still trying to get used to doing that dirty job on the toilet. I am so proud of her for deciding on her own that she was ready; and to be honest, I'm proud of myself for giving her the chance to be in control. We're getting closer and closer to a diaper-free household!
